Forkner Shows Progress in Anaheim 2 Return
Austin Forkner raced forward to finish 17th at the third round of the 2026 AMA Supercross series, held at Anaheim's Angel Stadium, California. The event marked Forkner's return to competition aboard his Triumph Factory Racing TF 450-X, after a crash in San Diego last weekend ruled him out of the second round.
Forkner was 14th in timed qualification after a terrific ninth in the first session, which transferred into the main event out of his heat race. Unfortunately, all of his momentum was lost early in the main event after contact with another rider meant that he ended the opening lap in last place. However, Forkner impressed aboard the TF 450X as he chipped away at the deficit to the pack, eventually claiming 17th place at the chequered flag.
Anaheim 2 marked the first SMX Next event of the season, an opportunity for future stars like Triumph's Deacon Denno to gather invaluable experience on the world's largest stage. Denno, piloting a Triumph TF 250-X with full support from Triumph Factory Racing, started the main event inside of the top five and maintained a position there for the duration, crossing the line in fifth.
The SMX Next athletes will join the AMA Supercross stars, like Austin Forkner, at the fourth round of the series in Houston, Texas next weekend, Saturday 31 January.
Austin Forkner
"This was my best qualification on the TF 450-X, for sure, but I was taken out early in the 450SX main event. It was not bad, just one of those first lap incidents in all of the shuffling around. I climbed back to 17th. My riding was decent, but I rode by myself for six or seven laps. If I could have caught the pack quicker, then that would have helped. We made more positive steps with the bike today! All in all, it was a nice step forward."
Deacon Denno
"This was a good experience for me! The team helped me improve throughout the day. I put some consistent laps down in the main event to finish fifth – I learned a lot and know where I need to improve. I will head back to the Triumph facility this week and put in the work before Houston!"
Steve Westfall – Team Manager, Triumph Factory Racing
"This was the first SMX Next event of the season, so we wanted to help Deacon get used to being with the team under the stadium lights. He was a bit nervous but still rode well across the day. Austin rode well all day, he just had some unfortunate situations in the main. We’ll take the positives and continue working to prepare for Houston."
