Triumph Factory Racing is celebrating another new historic milestone for the team with Guillem Farres achieving maximum points in Agueda, Portugal at the weekend. Farres dominated proceedings with a perfect 1-1-1 result, the first for the team, aboard his TF 250-X for round 10 of the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship.

Having placed second overall last weekend in Italy, Farres had momentum on his side heading into round 10 of the series. The Agueda circuit was clearly to the 23-year-old’s liking with its sandy surface, hard base, sizeable jumps, and multiple line choices.

Following an outstanding performance in Saturday’s qualifying, Farres was able to select the perfect gate pick for Sunday’s Grands Prix. In the opening moto, the Spanish-ace rounded the first turn up front and narrowly missed the holeshot. Able to hold a tight inside line into the second corner, he moved into first and then began to break away from the chasing pack. Throughout the race, Farres was simply faultless, maintaining his margin and going on to pick up his sixth moto win of the season

Farres claimed the holeshot in the second race and once again proved himself as the class of the field in Portugal. Gradually building up a comfortable lead as the race continued, the Triumph racer won the moto by over 10 seconds ahead of championship leader Sacha Coenen to claw more points back on his title rival, and claim his second Grand Prix win of the year. Leaving Agueda, Farres is second in the championship and sits 32 points behind Coenen with nine rounds remaining.

Teammate Camden McLellan finished sixth on the day with 4-5 across the two motos and currently lies fourth in the championship.

Farres and McLellan have both topped the podium in this groundbreaking year aboard the TF 250-X with three overall victories in total, and nine moto wins including two dominant 1-1 victories for Farres. The Triumph Factory Racing team has achieved 12 podiums so far this season, including the three victories, six second places and three thirds. There have been three double podiums, including an historic one-two finish in France, and a Triumph rider has finished on the podium in all bar one of the 10 Grand Prix events raced in only the third year of competition following the launch of Triumph’s off-road programme.

The next race is the MXGP of Rep. of South Africa in Johannesburg on July 5.

Guillem Farres said: “It was an amazing weekend here in Portugal. To come away with a perfect 1-1-1 score is exactly what we were aiming for, so I’m really happy with how everything came together. I got two good starts on Sunday, which made a big difference, and from there I was able to manage both races, control my pace, and make smart decisions. The bike was working really well and I felt comfortable all weekend. A huge thank you to the team for all of their hard work. The goal now is to keep this momentum going and fight for results like this at every round.”

Vincent Bereni, Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager, added: “Portugal was a mixed weekend for the team, but overall there are plenty of positives to take away. Both riders showed strong lap times, but it wasn’t always easy to put everything together across the motos. Camden had a tougher weekend than usual and struggled a little to find his flow, but he still fought hard and brought home important championship points. Guillem was very strong again. After winning the qualifying race, he backed that up with a perfect 1-1 result on Sunday, which was outstanding and another historic moment for Triumph and the team. To come away with another Grand Prix win, a perfect 60-point weekend for Guillem, and solid points for Camden, is great for the championship. We’ll take the positives, keep working, and focus on carrying this momentum into the next round.”

Ian Kimber, Head of Global Racing Programmes, Triumph Motorcycles, commented: “To achieve a 1-1-1 perfect score in MX2 is something we basically dreamed of when we first started this project, and it’s important to celebrate this special moment. A huge congratulations to Guillem, who has made a massive step this year, and this result has put him in closer contention for the title fight; we couldn’t be prouder. Both riders have produced some exceptional results this year so far, and we are competing against manufacturers that have been racing in that series for decades. I’d like to say a huge thanks to Vince, Thierry, Clement and the team for all their hard work, as well as all the engineers involved in making this project a success. The TF 250-X made a strong initial impression with Mikkel Haarup and Camden in its first season, followed by further success with Camden and Guillem last year. It is now a regular contender for the podium and victories, which is incredible. The work continues, but for a moment we’ll enjoy this special moment in Triumph’s history.”
