Iván Ortolá claimed his maiden Moto2™ World Championship victory today after a final lap corner sealed his first race win in the Triumph-powered class. The Spanish rider, who had completed a Long Lap Penalty on the way to victory, secured the 25 points ahead of polesitter David Alonso and home hero Filip Salač.

After mastering Brno under the scorching Czech sun on Saturday, it was Alonso who would start from pole position for the first time in 2026, with Salač and Dani Holgado on the front row. From lights out, Alonso’s pace looked electrifying as he arrived at turn one first. A fast start from the middle of row two saw Ortolá slot into second place with Holgado in third.

With the leading two beginning to break away in the early laps, eyes were locked on the final podium places with Izan Guevara heading Senna Agius, Holgado and Salač, who had dropped to sixth from his front row grid slot.

Determined to fight back, Salač began making his charge, slotting through on Holgado before a resurging Gonzalez, who was penalised nine grid places due to an excessively slow sector in Qualifying, followed through.

Back at the front, Ortolá, who had ducked in to take his Long Lap Penalty and held his position as he rejoined, began working his way back towards Alonso, who had inherited a 1.4-second lead. Catching the back of Alonso’s Street Triple-powered machine by lap ten, the Spanish rider began searching for a way through before ultimately having his first look on lap 14. A fierce battle ensued as Ortolá and Alonso fought for the lead, but for now, it was the poleman who came out on top.

With the battle set to rumble on till the chequered flag, the duo began their final tour with Ortolá still looking for a way through. But the move came when Alonso least expected, a brave pass at the final corner rewarded Ortolá with his first Moto2 victory, crossing the line a mere 0.096 seconds ahead of his rival.

Meanwhile, as the battle roared on at the front, a superb comeback from Salač put him in victory contention. Having passed both Guevara and Agius at the midway stage, the local rider threw everything at it as he searched for home glory, but crossed the line third to secure a strong podium in front of his fans.

Agius secured fourth place ahead of teammate Gonzalez, who got the better of Guevara on the final lap. Holgado was seventh as Joe Roberts, Celestino Vietti and Jose Antonio Rueda rounded out the top ten.

The Moto2 paddock returns in just under a week’s time as the series heads to the TT Circuit Assen next weekend (26-28 June).
