Historic High Point For 5.11 Triumph Factory Racing

Living up to its name, the picturesque circuit of High Point has offered another peak in the 5.11 Triumph Factory Racing team's AMA Pro Motocross Championship this weekend, with the British manufacturer placing two TF 450-X machines inside of the top 10 for the first time in history whilst running a unique 'Art of Moto' livery from SKDA.

Mikkel Haarup was the lead TF 450-X rider in 450MX's overall classification, where the fourth round started brilliantly for him qualifying in a season-best fifth. Starting the first moto in eighth, he battled in the lower half of the top 10 for the duration before securing that position at the finish line.

However it was in the second moto where he showed his true potential, starting in sixth place he chased the top five in the early laps and gained valuable information at the head of the pack. An eventful race left him in eighth for a second time. The consistent scorecard was rewarded with a season-best overall rank of seventh. The score also marked the best result for the TF 450-X thus far, and moved Haarup to ninth in the championship standings.

Jordon Smith has improved with each AMA Pro Motocross event and High Point was no different. It was in the first moto that he contributed to history. Starting on the verge of the top five, he battled amongst the lead group, and with his teammate, before reaching the chequered flag in ninth place. Unfortunately, a fall early on in moto two left him in 26th on the second lap. The comeback was noteworthy, however, as he worked his way back to 13th and earned a season-best overall finish of ninth.

Continuing his recent run of momentum, Deacon Denno took 16th in 250MX's first moto for the third week in succession. The second moto has typically been a marked improvement for the rookie, yet it was difficult on this occasion. At the first turn the youngster was caught in a crash through no fault of his own and despite carrying on for a few laps following the fall, the rear of his machine was damaged. The team decided to pull him in and consequently, he was restricted to 19th in the overall classification.

Gage Linville took another step forward in his adaptation to AMA Pro Motocross. Whilst he missed out on points, he was just two positions from that in the first moto, and had lap times that indicated he was deserving of more.

5.11 Triumph Factory Racing will take this momentum into the season’s first off weekend, before returning with renewed energy when the AMA Pro Motocross Championship resumes at RedBud on 4th July.

Mikkel Haarup:
“I felt pretty good today. We can be proud of ourselves. The top five in qualification was positive – I showed my sprint speed. My starts were mediocre, but I was in the top 10 in both motos at least. I was caught behind my teammate for a little while in the first moto and finished eighth. I had a little better start in moto two and very strong intensity. I just lost a few positions midway through the race. Nonetheless, seventh overall was still a massive improvement. I think we can be happy with our direction.”

Jordon Smith:
“It was a much better day today. We keep improving every week. There were big improvements in Colorado last week, then more of those today. I had my first top 10 in 450MX! The team has worked really hard and we'll keep trying to move up through the top 10.”

Deacon Denno:
“I struggled a little in qualification but put together a solid first moto. I just had a crash on the start in the second moto and my bike was hit by a couple of other riders. I battled forwards but had another little fall. I was not able to finish the race, so I went 16-DNF for 19th. I still learnt a lot on not the best day.”

Gage Linville:
“Today was a better day in some areas, at least. The first moto was positive – I felt more in the battle. It's frustrating to not be where you want to be, but all we can do is work towards RedBud.”

Jeremy Coker – General Manager, Triumph Racing America:
“Today was a breakthrough day for the 450MX riders. Having two TF-450 X bikes in the top 10 is not easy. I'm very proud of the team, Mikkel and Jordon. The hard work is starting to pay off. For the 250MX boys, this track was not easy. Being a rookie for Deacon, it took him all day to gel with the track. His first moto was much better than qualification. Unfortunately, some riders crashed in front of him at the start of moto two and took him down. He sustained damage to the rear of his bike but got up and started to ride very well, where he was on his way to a top 10 when, unfortunately, after the crash there was some damage to the machine, so we decided it was safer to pull him off at that point. For Deacon, every race is a learning curve and that's part of it. He'll learn and get better each week. Gage made some strides in the right direction and was very close to scoring points.”
